Right ventricular strain imaging using 3D SPAMM combined with optical flow tracking

چکیده
Background Presently there is no method of evaluating right ventricle function that simultaneously accounts for its complex geometry and motion. RV strain imaging is promising for evaluating regional dysfunction but to date it has not been possible to assess all 3 dimensions in a single acquisition. A novel variant of SPAMM tagging combined with optical flow tracking is available at our institution that can evaluate strain and torsion simultaneously in all 3 dimensions. We have applied this method to the right ventricle.

Deformation analysis of 3D tagged cardiac images using an optical flow method
BACKGROUND This study proposes and validates a method of measuring 3D strain in myocardium using a 3D Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance (CMR) tissue-tagging sequence and a 3D optical flow method (OFM). METHODS Initially, a 3D tag MR sequence was developed and the parameters of the sequence and 3D OFM were optimized using phantom images with simulated deformation. This method then was validate...
متن کاملValidation of Fast Dynamic SPAMM Tagged MRI Based Measurement of Non-linear 3D Soft Tissue Deformation
Introduction: The MRI based measurement of dynamic 3D deformation of soft tissue in-vivo is relevant to many areas of research such as cardiac biomechanics, the assessment of tumor motion and preoperative planning. Furthermore, when combined with inverse analysis, it enables the non-invasive determination of the mechanical properties of human soft tissue [1]. The current study uses SPAtial Modu...
متن کاملTracking Contrast in Echocardiography by a Combined Snake and Optical Flow Technique
Contrast-echocardiography in conjunction with realtime video-densiometry can be an effective means of studying right ventricular (RV) structural changes, e.g. in patients diagnosed with Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia (ARVD). In order to characterize RV flow pattern it may be necessary to track the front of the contrast agent as it enters the RV. Active contour models (ACM) is a stan...
متن کاملQuantification of Coupled Stiffness and Fiber Orientation Remodeling in Hypertensive Rat Right-Ventricular Myocardium Using 3D Ultrasound Speckle Tracking with Biaxial Testing
Mechanical and structural changes of right ventricular (RV) in response to pulmonary hypertension (PH) are inadequately understood. While current standard biaxial testing provides information on the mechanical behavior of RV tissues using surface markers, it is unable to fully assess structural and mechanical properties across the full tissue thickness. In this study, the mechanical and structu...
متن کاملThree-dimensional reconstruction of the functional strain-line pattern in the left ventricle from 3-dimensional echocardiography.
A dvances in 3-dimensional (3D) echocardiography offer a rapid, effective imaging technique with adequate temporal and spatial resolution for left ventricular motion assessment. 3D multidirectional tracking of the endocardial left ventricular layer has shown that the functional pattern of directional strain arrangement during cardiac contraction closely relates with the structural architecture ...
